The purpose of the Mankato Figure Skating
Club is to encourage instruction, practice and advancement
of the members in any or all of the disciplines of figure
skating: to encourage and cultivate a spirit of fraternal
feeling among ice skaters; and to carry out the general
policies and objectives of the United States Figure
Skating Association. This club is devoted to developing
the potential of each club member.
A MFSC member must comply with the club
by-laws, rules and regulations. Membership carries with
it the following responsibilities: rink parent duties,
concession stand duties, and parent(s) are required to
work on committees for the annual ice show and participating
in some of the fundraising opportunities. A parent or
adult must assume these responsibilities. Each skater
is expected to perform in the annual ice show.
A MFSC member will be able to purchase club
ice throughout the year. This ice is subsidized by the
MFSC and will enable the skater to receive personal attention,
which will allow the skater to improve his/her skills.
The board of directors must approve any coaches utilized
by the member on club ice. A member may participate in
USFSA-sanctioned competition events, testing sessions,
the precision team, and the annual ice show.
The MFSC is a non-profit organization sanctioned
under the United States Figure Skating Association. A
$30.00 fee is sent to the USFSA for enrollment. This entitles
the member to participate in any USFSA sanctioned competition,
take any USFSA test, and receive a copy of "Skating"
magazine which is published by the USFSA. The MFSC has
annual membership dues, and there are three different
types of membership.
- General - A general
membership has been explained above
- Adult - An adult member
must be 18 years old. They do not have any responsibilities
AND they must pay an additional $2.00 over what a general
member pays for each ice session. The reason for this
type of membership is to keep skaters skating as long
as they have personal goals to achieve.
- Associate - An associate
member MUST be a member of another club. They will be
allowed to sign up for ice AFTER the general membership,
and they do not have any responsibilities AND they must
pay an additional $2.00 over what a general member pays
for each ice session.
The colors of the MFSC Royal Blue and White.
The symbol of our club is a snowflake behind two skaters.
A board of directors with a president, vice
president, secretary, and treasurer with 5 other board
members governs the MFSC. An election is held at the spring
banquet each year with one third of the board elected
each year. The board established basic policy and rules
for the club, which are updated as needed. Board meetings
are held monthly, with the date published in the monthly
newsletter. Each person on the board is a volunteer who
donates many hours of time. If you are interested in serving
on the board of directors, please let a board member know.
If you are unable to serve, please give your support to
those who do. Those wishing to bring up specific topics
are encouraged to arrange to meet with the president in
advance of the meeting.
